Excellent! We did both tours. They were very different, and worth doing both the original tour and the "More" tour. This place is so creepy and beautiful all at the same time. Pablo(I think was his n…Full review by Jenine C
I'm planning to visit in January. I want to book the mansion tour followed by the explore more tour. Are they both guided or would we need to allot some exploration time? I want to book first available it's saying 9:20 for main tour and 10:50 for explore more - does that give enough time for the main one?

The tours are guided and take an hour each. The main house is very impressive but the 'behind the scenes' tour is even better as you see the basement where the furnaces, generator for the gas lighting system and so on are explained in detail. You also see the various buildings that were the backbone of the house, and several other attractions. The grounds are extensive and these are great for a self guided tour. And if you like guns, namely the Winchester repeating rifle, be sure to check out the gun museum which is free of charge and well worth seeing. I have been there several times and love this place but I do recommend you get the guidebook as it shows various rooms in detail. As I recall the tours start at 9:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM.. Best to get there early and make a day of it. And yes, there is a café, but if you want a full meal there is a wonderful restaurant right next to the museum. And may I add you can easily spend hours in the gift shop, with a wide assortment of books. This is one of the most exciting tours I've ever seen. Have fun, Alex.
