Amid swift and emphatic demands for his resignation, Republican state Sen. Justin Eichorn was charged in state and federal court Wednesday with soliciting prostitution from a Twin Cities police detective posing as a 17-year-old girl.

Minnesota Senate Republicans on Thursday will make a motion to expel their colleague Sen. Justin Eichorn following a federal criminal charge that he attempted to solicit sex from a minor.

Justin Eichorn, 40, was arrested by Bloomington Police on Monday after they said they had communication with the state senator. Eichorn gained national headlines earlier this week after he co-authored a bill in the Minnesota Senate wanting to define "Trump derangement syndrome" as a mental illness.
