The Los Angeles Marathon’s Legacy Runners continue to run through heartache and grief, battling illnesses and injuries while participating in the city's 40th marathon on Sunday, competing in every race since its inception in 1986.

Matt Richtman of Elburn, Illinois finished the race in two hours, seven minutes, and 56 seconds.

It has been decades since an American won the Los Angeles Marathon, but an Elburn, Illinois native broke that record this past weekend. Matt Richtman's parents were cheering him on, and a former coach was rooting for him too.

An American won the Los Angeles Marathon for the first time in 31 years on Sunday. According to CNN, Matt Richtman won event in its 40th year since it began, setting a personal record of 2 hours, 7 minutes,
