Voters in Oakland, California, are going to the polls on Tuesday to pick a new mayor in an election that could reshape the struggling city. The final results, though, may not be known for several days.

With just days remaining before Tuesday's special election, Oakland mayoral candidates Barbara Lee and Loren Taylor spent the weekend canvassing neighborhoods across the city, urging residents to turn in their ballots amid what officials are calling alarmingly low voter turnout.

Conway's office announced City Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl's resignation on Monday. The mayor's spokesperson, Dylan Brogan, said Witzel-Behl submitted her resignation on Thursday but the mayor had to wait to announce it because Witzel-Behl's contract granted her several days to change her mind.
