In case the pardons weren't enough, Pete Marocco, one of the men who entered the Capitol on Jan. 6, now has a powerful position in the State Department.

Marocco held several national security positions during the first Trump administration, including at USAID, where he tried to consolidate power and slash funding.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Monday he is acting director of the United States Agency for International Development amid an "apocalyptic" shakeup, as Democratic lawmakers threatened to stall Trump nominees.

Nearly all of USAID’s global workforce will be placed on administrative leave starting Friday, according to a notice on the aid agency’s website Tuesday evening, a move that comes as President Donald Trump and several members of his administration have spoken of plans to review and potentially restructure or abolish parts of USAID.

In the announcement, USAID said all "direct-hire personnel" will be placed on leave at the end of this week except those on "mission-critical functions, core leadership and specially designated programs".
