At the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026, a moment off the field drew as much attention as the action on it as India U19 captain Ayush Mhatre and Bangladesh U19 vice-skipper Zawad Abrar skipped the customary pre-match handshake before their Group B encounter in Bulawayo.

Vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra (7 runs off 24 balls) tried to rebuild the innings but was dismissed by Hakim Tamim as India found themselves at 53 for 3 after the Powerplay. On the other hand, Vaibhav got his form back and scored a brilliant fifty to keep India up and running.

Vihaan Malhotra took 4/14 to help India bundle out Bangladesh for 146 in 28.3 overs, while chasing a revised target of 165 in 29 overs. Earlier, India had scored 238 before a lengthy rain delay forced loss in overs.

Iqbal Hossian Emon removed Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the 27th over, dismissing the India opener for 72 off 67 balls. At 14 years and 296 days, Vaibhav became the youngest to get a 50-plus score at the Under-19 World Cup.

The Bangladesh government has imposed an indefinite ban on the telecast and promotion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the controversy surrounding the removal of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad.
