The Japanese fast food chain Sukiya is temporarily closing its nearly 2,000 locations after a rat was found in soup a customer ordered on Friday.

Sukiya, a leading beef bowl food chain in Japan, said it is shutting down almost all of its about 2,000 outlets across the country for four days to address a major hygiene issue.

Amid a year marked by closures in the U.S., a similar trend appears to be unfolding abroad.  This time, Japanese fast-food giant Sukiya is shuttering nearly
