Severe Weather Awareness Week continues with a focus on preparedness. There are several ways you can prepare for the upcoming severe weather season.

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Severe Weather Awareness week kicked off across Michigan yesterday and will continue through March 22. Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared March 16-22, 2025 as Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness Week a week where Michiganders are encouraged to have a plan and stay prepared for severe weather emergencies.

Storms will move SW to NE. This is not a 100% coverage of rain-- some locations could miss the rain. The severe threat is highest between Monday, 1 p.m., and 7 p.m. for Central and Southside Virginia.

As storms approach, the Storm Prediction Center cautions that the potential for strong tornadoes and severe weather underscores the need for preparedness.

Scattered showers will move into the region likely by the late morning hours for western areas then by the afternoon for eastern zones lasting through the evening. Rain will likely be on the lighter side and not a complete washout for the entire day as there will be breaks in the rain.

The Storm Prediction Center has consistently put Georgia in a level 2 risk for storms that could turn severe. Right now, the main threats look to be pockets of heavy rain, some damaging wind possible and a very low tornado risk.
