The last pennies to be made by the U.S. Mint were auctioned Dec. 11 and the coins brought in a whopping $16.8 million.
One of the most coveted, rare coins ever struck by the U.S. Mint – a long-lost 1804 dollar – is expected to sell for millions at auction Sunday, according to auctioneers at Stack's Bowers Galleries.
The U.S. Mint's last pennies struck will be auctioned on Thursday, Dec. 11. Each winning bid gets a 24-karat gold penny along with two 2025 pennies.
People may be inspired to collect coins after all the recent discussion on pennies, long-time collectors said.
