The NBA is looking into launching a European league with Fiba, the world governing body. The initial plan is for a 16-team league, with 12 permanent teams and four who would have to qualify each year.

A new team could emerge in the Paris market, owned by Qatar Sports Investments, which owns soccer giant Paris Saint-Germain. The 2024 Olympic host city already counts as its own Paris Basketball, which plays in the French national league and the EuroLeague, and has home games at both of the city’s large basketball arenas.

The NBA and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), global basketball’s governing body, are in talks with European soccer clubs about a potential new hoops league on the continent.
