The bodies of three trapped workers were recovered from a coal mine in Assams Dima Hasao district, raising the total to four. Rescue operations continue as authorities work to dewater the mine that was abandoned 12 years ago.

The death toll in Assam’s Umrangso coal mine tragedy has risen to four, with five miners still missing. Rescue teams recovered three more bodies on January 11, including that of 27-year-old Ligen Magar from Dima Hasao.

The four deceased labourers are among the nine workers trapped inside the coal mine in Umrangsu on Monday after a sudden gush of water flooded the quarry.
