One week after Elon Musk held court before the cameras during President Donald Trump’s first Cabinet meeting, many of the Senate-confirmed leaders of government departments and agencies reconvened in the Cabinet Room on Thursday for a different kind of discussion.

Trump convened a Cabinet-level meeting to tell the heads of the agencies that they are in charge of the agencies and departments they oversee -- not Elon Musk.

The meeting represented the outpouring of weeks of building tensions between the head of DOGE and President Donald Trump’s top political officials.
