All eyes are on a winter storm that is expected to bring a significant amount of snow to much of the Washington, D.C. region.

National Weather Service meteorologists warned of "significant" snowfall in some areas, which could disrupt travel.

Winter weather alerts are in effect for portions of the Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic, including Washington, D.C., as a powerful winter storm sweeps into the region, bringing heavy snow and ice that could lead to power outages and travel delays.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Monday afternoon for Kent and Sussex countries in Delaware. The warning, which takes effect at 1 p.m. Tuesday, is calling for 5 to 9 inches of snow in central and southern Delaware.
