Ditka’s record stood at 1,076 yards, and Bowers surpassed him and is now at 1,144 receing yards. Bowers also set the record for most rookie tight end receptions in a season with 108 receptions.

Bowers had entered the game with 1,067 yards and four touchdowns receiving, needing 10 yards to set the record in his 16th career game.
