There’s a new safe haven for those who identify as transgender in the Bay State, after Worcester officially became a sanctuary city for that community during a lengthy city council meeting on Tuesday night.

Massachusetts’ second-largest city voted to become a sanctuary for transgender people — one of the first in the country to do so since President Trump took office in January and brought sweeping reform to federal gender policy.

The decision followed a nonbinary member of the Worcester City Council deciding to take a 'hiatus' due to an alleged discriminatory culture.
