Italy's Federica Brignone completed a women's World Cup giant slalom double in Sestriere on Saturday as U.S. ski great Mikaela Shiffrin failed to make the cut in the discipline for the first time since 2012.

SAALBACH-HINTERGLEMM, Austria (AP) — Austrian skier Raphael Haaser ended the Swiss dominance in the men’s events at the Alpine world championships by winning the giant slalom on Friday. Haaser improved from fifth place in the opening run as the leading racers faltered in the second, and he finished ahead of three Swiss rivals.

Federica Brignone won the first World Cup giant slalom after taking gold at the world championships, while Mikaela Shiffrin finished 25th in the American's first race in the discipline in nearly 12 weeks.
