Martinelli led the way with 27 points and 13 rebounds and his basket with 2.6 seconds left helped Northwestern hold off USC 77-75 at Welsh-Ryan Arena and snap a three-game losing skid.

The Department of Education inquiry will look into violations of Title VI, which protects students from race, color and national origin bias. The university said it had updated its student code of conduct and would cooperate with the investigation.
