The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission is giving advance notice to drivers of passenger cars and commercial trucks to encourage payment of any outstanding tolls before late fees and collections resume in February.

The Ohio Turnpike Commission announced Friday that it will resume late fees and collections for unpaid tolls starting February 3, 2025. Fees were suspended in August 2024 to allow drivers time to adjust to the new open-road tolling system, which replaced toll booths with electronic tolling.

A text message scam that first appeared in April has resurfaced claiming drivers owe money for unpaid tolls. Adding to the confusion, it comes just weeks after the Pennsylvania Turnpike's switch to open road tolling. But turnpike officials say customers will never get texts from the agency about payments.
