Apply first layer of pumice to the pot. If you're using a single pot, make sure you leave enough room at the bottom for a 1/3 reservoir. The soil rootball should never be in the reservoir space. If you're using an NSW pot with a wick, make sure the wick is threaded before you add pumice.

May 21, 2022 · Layers below the red line stay moist. This wicking semihydro pot has been sitting for a week now after flush day. Also, pumice has enough weight to it that it can keep poles and heavier foliage in place with no problem. P.s. Yes, the wick is a cut strip from a cheapo microfiber kitchen towel😅. For my semi hydro cactus, I use chicken grit!
